How do I get on the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list?
Omaha Housing Authority announces the opening of the waiting list in the Omaha World Herald and the Omaha Star newspapers at least 7 business days prior to the date applications will be accepted. You need to call the 800 number on the date and time listed in the advertisement.

How long will I have to wait before I receive Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher assistance?
Currently the estimated wait for assistance is 6 to 8 months.

I am homeless or I need immediate assistance. Why can’t I get my Section 8 now?
The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program is not an emergency housing program. Applicants are placed on the waiting list according to the date and time of their complete application.

What happens if I move before I reach the top of the Section 8 wait list?
It is your responsibility to notify Omaha Housing Authority of any changes so we can reach you when you reach the top of the wait list. Information can be mailed or dropped off at:
