Public Housing

This is an exciting time at the Omaha Housing Authority (OHA)!  We have completed construction on our new low income housing tax credit Signature Properties.  As a result of partnerships with Housing In Omaha, Inc. and Housing Urban Development (HUD).

 

In May 2006 OHA started accepting applications for 70 tax credit/public housing units, which consisted of large rehabilitated units in several historical landmark structures, now referred to as Ernie Chambers Court.  These units were a welcome addition to the renovation and new construction already underway in North Omaha.

 

By Year End we completed 40 units of new construction in West Omaha consisting of single family homes and duplexes.

 

We continue to revise and improve our application process to reduce the application time.  We have always completed background checks as part of our eligibility process, however in recent months we added landlord reference checks thru "Tenant Data".

 

Upward mobility preference were also added for families where at least one adult family member is employed, or is a active participant in an accredited educational and training program, or where the head of household or spouse is age 62 or older, or is a person with disabilities.

 

To better serve our clientèle, we take applications for Public Housing from Monday to Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30. Saturdays application are taken by appointment only.
